Adviser on Iraq stands to earn $100M or more from oil company
A former ambassador who advised U.S. policymakers on Iraq, Peter W. Galbraith, could receive at least $100 million in fees from the Norwegian oil company DNO, which is drilling for oil in the Iraqi region of Kurdistan. During the writing of Iraq's constitution in the summer of 2005, Galbraith helped the Kurds get a provision approved giving them, not the central government, authority over the oil resources of Kurdistan. He has often said he is "an unpaid adviser to the Kurds," according to a newspaper report. However, documents and interviews established that Galbraith in the spring of 2004 was given a major stake in at least one of Kurdistan's oilfields. The New York Times (11/11)
