| The Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani, in the hope of reaching
a decision in less than a month on the large oil field Nasiriyah.
He
said al-Shahristani told a news briefing on Friday during his visit to
Japan to meet with government officials and representatives of a number
of companies, including Nippon Oil, "We are in the final stage of the
selection of successful bidder" will be announced immediately after the
financial arrangements. Shahristani said no decision has been made on
when Iraq intends to hold a meeting in Turkey with respect to the
second round for the licensing of oil and gas fields, or when they will
hold the second round. Meanwhile, Japanese Trade Minister Toshihiro
Nikai, who met with al-Shahristani said on Thursday the Japanese
government fully supports the participation of Japanese companies in
